The facts and figures presented by CBS's Steve Kroft were disturbing as were the details concerning how shysters bilk the system for an estimated $60 billion a year.
Reader's Digest ran a similar story in the October 2009 issue. Unfortunately, after running off many atrocious examples of criminals bilking the system (and taxpayers) of billions of dollars, Michael Crowley completely misses the core issue by concluding:
The Justice Department and HHS have finally stepped up efforts to crack down on such abuse. Since last October, they've won 300 convictions and recovered nearly $1 billion. But most watchdogs agree that's just a start. More funding and investigators are needed.
New laws and regulations are needed too.
What new laws and regulations could possibly be needed? Is fraud not yet illegal? Is it not yet illegal to steal from taxpayers and the government? How about identity theft? Filing false paperwork? Every example cited in both the Reader's Digest and 60 Minutes stories was of something that's already illegal. And yet, government eternally uses their failure as justification for more power and funding.
The 60 Minutes story got closest to the core problem:
Later, Kroft asked Waterman, "There's something I don't understand. I mean, you're saying essentially people just fill out the phony paperwork, they send a bill to Medicare and they pay it."
That is the most obvious symptom of the problem. The government does not provide any services. They never see patients. All they do is pay people for submitting paperwork. Anyone who can submit paperwork can receive money in exchange.
And these people claim they can somehow save enough money by refining the current system to pay for their entirely government-run system. I say they are crazy liars.
Now, you'll notice I said that is a symptom. This is the core problem with Medicare and Medicaid:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
The real problem, the core fraud, is the hundreds of billions of dollars the feds are fraudulently stealing from the entire nation by maintaining these unconstitutional programs. There is no constitutional justification for their existence, and yet, on a scale that makes the criminals they are prosecuting drool with envy, the thieves in Congress fill out the phony paperwork, send the bill to the taxpayers, and steal hundreds of billions of dollars from the productive members of this great nation.
Obama fabricates newest national emergency out of government fiat
Once again, Obama demonstrates that he will stop at nothing to destroy freedom, impoverish taxpayers, waste national resources, and needlessly risk the health of millions of Americans.
Mere months after the administration had the unconstitutional Center for Disease Control (CDC) order medical personnel to stop testing patients for swine flu, and to just assume that every flu is the swine flu, Obama declared that the outbreak is so severe that it necessitates empowering the government and big pharma to ignore federal safety laws so that it can administer untested and unproven vaccines on millions of Americans.
Four days ago, CBS News concluded an investigative report revealing that as low as 2% of reported flu cases were actually the H1N1 flu. Meaning, if 100 people went to the doctor with "flu-like symptoms," under CDC guidelines 100 people were automatically declared to have swine flu and were treated as having swine flu. And yet, only 2 of those people may have actually had H1N1.
So take any official numbers related in any way to swine flu infection and death rates with a grain of salt and a side of skepticism.
Ironically, as CBS reports, "Because of the uncertainties, the CDC advises even those who were told they had H1N1 to get vaccinated unless they had lab confirmation. 'Persons who are uncertain about how they were diagnosed should get the 2009 H1N1 vaccine.'"
And this, despite the fact that even their fraudulently inflated numbers show the swine flu as being much milder and less dangerous than the normal flu. The World Health Organization claims there have been less then 5,000 deaths worldwide that were linked to the swine flu. By comparison, about one million die each year from malaria, and 36,000 people die annually from complications linked to the seasonal flu, according to the CDC.
So what is the real reason for the crisis? I venture it is some as-yet unrevealed step in this aspect of their Cloward-Piven strategy implementation:
One of two things must be true. Either the Democrats are unfathomable idiots, who ignorantly pursue ever more destructive policies despite decades of contrary evidence, or they understand the consequences of their actions and relentlessly carry on anyway because they somehow benefit.
I submit to you they understand the consequences. For many it is simply a practical matter of eliciting votes from a targeted constituency at taxpayer expense; we lose a little, they gain a lot, and the politician keeps his job. But for others, the goal is more malevolent - the failure is deliberate. Don't laugh. This method not only has its proponents, it has a name: the Cloward-Piven Strategy. It describes their agenda, tactics, and long-term strategy.

The strategy of forcing political change through orchestrated crisis. The "Cloward-Piven Strategy" seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.
A detailed reading of the Democrats' health care plan reveals it as the biggest single leap forward in the destruction of our constitutional republic ever, and they are desperate to foist it on us, whether we want it or not.
Obama urges citizens towards slavery
The displaced community organizer has a very strange definition of the concepts of "patriotism" and what it means to "volunteer."
Apparently, "volunteering" means having the government take your money and children and put them to work in the service of an unconstitutional arm of the government. "Volunteering" is using extortion to force public schools to put schoolchildren to work on government-approved projects, or suffer the loss of federal funding. "Volunteering" means becoming a paid government agent, to be sent to accomplish the will of the government.
And "patriotism" means spending billions of taxpayer dollars turning young and old adults into workerbots - taking them out of the private sector where they are actually able to contribute to the economy and society as a whole, and putting them to work in whatever lobbyist-friendly project the Kenyan Dictator or Congress can come up with. "Patriotism" now means ignoring supply and demand, means ignoring free-market economics, means wasting billions of dollars and lives on socialist projects. It means replacing freedom and private charity, which is exceptionally efficient at filling actual needs, with mandatory "volunteer" government-directed service, which serves only the political whims of the politicians in charge.
Rather than "connecting deeds to needs," this program creates an awful lot of expense and work and then tries to find something to waste it on.
In Americorps, enrolees do not learn what it means to be an American. They do not learn anything about patriotism, the history of this nation, or principles of correct and just government.
Enrolees learn only to be government lackeys. Enrolees learn that it's easier to be a public-sector sycophant than to hold a private-sector job. Enrolees learn how to serve the political cause of the day in exchange for money, rather than what a just cause acutally is, and how to stand up for it. They learn how to bully money out of taxpayers, in order to perpetuate a bureaucracy. They learn that it is more important to perpetuate a bureaucracy, than to examine whether that bureaucracy actually contribues anything of worth, and whether those contributions could be done more efficiently by true volunteers, voluntarily volunteering their time, money, and resources to a cause they actually love, but who are instead forced to work extra hours at a job in order to pay the increased taxes to fund the government make-work programs.
I understand that it is easier to be a government leech than to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and actually contribute to the nation. But the American Dream has always been that anyone, anywhere, can start with nothing, and make something. American's have always been an extremely giving people, with private charity dwarfing the sums "donated" by government to emergencies domestic and foreign. Government is only able to out-give private charity in areas where there is no actual market or demand, such as funding foreign dictators and tyrants or international organizations that want to destroy our national sovereignty.
But I believe true Americans, true patriots, can take America back from the socialist engineers who want to fiddle with the lives of every citizen, and re-mold us into their idea of good government servants. The government should be our servant, not the other way around. Government exists only to protect our rights and freedoms, and those rights and freedoms are already defined in the document that created our government. They do not get to decide what we are allowed to do, we have decided and deliniated what they are allowed to do.
Let us remind Congress and the other President that they have sworn an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, and that it has not yet been amended to allow Congress or the President to created, fund, or direct national service organizations.
